  • Top-Seeded Clemson to Host Pitt in ACC Semifinal Wednesday. Clemson, S.C. –  The top-seeded Clemson men’s soccer team is set to welcome the fourth-seeded Pittsburgh Panthers to Historic Riggs Field on Wednesday at 6 p.m., as the two sides meet in ACC semifinal action. The Tigers enter the match after a commanding 3-0 victory over Notre Dame in the quarterfinal round. Earlier today, the United Soccer Coaches organization announced that Clemson had earned the nation’s No. 1 ranking after improving to 15-1-1 on the year. Series Notes: · Wednesday’s semifinal match is the fifth all-time meeting between the Pittsburgh Panthers and Clemson Tigers. · Clemson leads the series, 3-1, and has outscored the Panthers by an 8-1 margin.  · This is the first time in the series that the teams will meet in ACC tournament play. · Head Coach Mike Noonan has led the way for the Tigers in each match against Pitt, with the first contest between the two sides occurring in 2013. Clemson Notes: · Clemson’s No. 1 ranking is complemented by the team slotting into the 4th position in the NCAA RPI rankings. · This is the first time since the Sept. 18, 2006 poll that Clemson has earned the No. 1 ranking. · During his time at Clemson, Head Coach Mike Noonan has guided the Tigers to 17 appearances in the national poll’s top three spots. · Last time out, the Tigers defeated the eighth-seeded Irish, 3-0. · Clemson saw scoring from three different players on Sunday, with all goals coming in the second half.  · Philip Mayaka scored the game-winning goal with his strike in the 54th minute. This was Mayaka’s second goal of the season, making him the 10th Clemson player to score multiple goals this season. · Clemson holds a 10-0-1 record while playing at Historic Riggs Field this season, outscoring opponents, 42-6. Pittsburgh Notes: · Pitt advances to its first ACC semifinal match after defeating NC State in overtime this past Sunday by a 2-1 scoreline.  · The Panthers are under the direction of Jay Vidovich, who is in his fourth season serving as Pitt’s head coach. · Pitt is led in scoring by Edward Kizza, with Kizza contributing 26 points off of 11 goals and four assists. · Arie Ammann is expected to earn the start in goal for the Panthers, with Ammann seeing action in 13 contests and making 39 saves over the course of the season.
